And the word is
Today I'm contemplating the question: 'Suppose there was a book filled with only one word …'
Earlier this week, in my other newsletter (yes I have two!) I wrote about my New Year’s project of discovering One Word that would guide me into 2024.1
Here’s what happened:
Yes, the word was:
Author
Which just didn’t seem like the kind of word that would be delivered in a dream.
I was expecting something loftier like Grace. Beauty. or Glory.
But as unexpected as the word itself was, the medium on which it was written was a real puzzle.
Why, of all things, was my word written on a humble white gym sock, I wondered.
Am I being encouraged to do some footwork as an author?
Is my dream sock giving me a gentle kick, telling me to return to the sock-white page and boldly imprint words upon it?
Socks cover our soles (souls?). But unlike shoes, they aren’t meant for stepping outside. So, is the dream telling me to stay home and write?
Is the dream advising me to go forth, as a poet, but sock-footed, at the leisurely pace of softly padded sentences?
I’ll continue contemplating my word and my dream. In the meantime, today’s poem unfolds a different word. And in line with my sock dream, it contemplates the act of going forth.
Today’s Poem: ‘Book of Go’
Kei Miller’s poem, “Book of Genesis,” imagines:
“Suppose there was a book filled with only one word …”
After reading and re-reading his beautiful poem about his chosen word, Let, I asked myself:
Suppose there was only one word that filled a book about Sarah and Abraham’s story? What would it be?
The word that came to me, was Go.
After all, their story is set in motion when God commands them to “Go forth,” from their home and into the unknown.
Here is the poem “Book of Go,” which I wrote in response. Have a listen:

Speaking of being an author
This week marks the 1-Year-Anniversary of the publication of my book, Dreaming on the Page.🎉
Here’s a post about what I’ve learned from that book this year, and why I consider you to be my book’s best hope for success:

I did one of those word-generator things for 2024, even though I thought it was hokey and got the word "unwind." LOL! The universe knows more than I do.
I love the words you featured: Go, Author! Go, You!
