What most of us know about Sarah is contained in one line. I knew there had to be more.
Today I'm sharing a poem I wrote in response, and I'm inviting you to a FREE event where you can write your own!
Welcome back to The Life of H: Sarah, Reimagined, where I explore the story of the biblical matriarch through poetry and a poet’s prose.
This newsletter is free. But when you upgrade to the paid version you receive bonus content, discounts on 1:1 Dreamwork and Writing Coaching sessions, and a FREE copy of my latest book, Dreaming on the Page.
The sentence that launched this week’s poem
Today’s poem is based on a single line from Genesis:
“Sarai was the name of Abram’s wife. Sarai was barren. She had no child.”
That single line sums up what most of us know about Sarah.
That single line frustrated me because …
That single line reduces a Matriarch, a priestess, and a prophetess to her status as wife and mother—or not.
Then that line fired up my curiosity.
I wasn’t satisfied.
So, I dug into that line with a Golden Shovel.
As you listen to today’s poem, “Sarai, the Name,” see if you can hear the words from the verse quoted above. Notice how the meaning is amplified and transformed in the poem I created in response.
